Alberta led Canada in housing construction in early 2025, with a 30% increase in housing starts, totaling 27,902. Despite having under 13% of the population, Alberta accounted for nearly 25% of national housing starts. Calgary and Edmonton saw increases of 32% and 29%, respectively. Nearly half of new starts are rental units, with 21,735 under construction. Growth is credited to reduced red tape, innovative strategies, and a low-tax environment.
